Katya Bryskina was born in 1988 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and lives and works in London. 

One of the latest projects, Future Protein, is focused on mussel farms as a part of our future food system STARTS Hungry Ecocities Residency 2023-2024, with a demonstration event at Studio Other Spaces and Olafur Eliason studio in Berlin, Germany. 

 

She was commissioned for the Constructing Clouds and Albedo project by Art Centre Nabi in Seoul, Korea, addressing geoengineering and planetary restoration strategies. A consistent presence in exhibitions since 2008, Katya was awarded the Global Talent UK by the Art Council of England in 2022 and is currently a resident at Somerset House in London.

LIFORM: The Living Megastructures project explores mycelium intelligence presented in multiple institutions, including New Holland Island (Saint-Petersburg, Russia), Extractive Architecture Exhibition, V-A C Zattre Venice, where Katya was a resident in 2021-2022, and the Darwin Museum, Moscow, Russia. 

 

She is continuously involved in academia as an invited speaker, guest lecturer, and juror. Katya spoke at Climate Matters Week School in 2023 at the Architectural Association. She has also taught at various institutions, including UCL Bartlett, AA school, Digital Futures, and Strelka Institute.

 

She was a resident and collaborated with SPACE10, Ikea’s Innovation Lab, on Bio-Fold, which challenges the conventions of furniture design with earth-friendly materials, organic shapes, and simple constructions.

 

She holds a Master's Degree in Emergent Technology and Design from the Architectural Association School of Architecture (London, UK) and the postgraduate program The New Normal from Strelka Institute (Moscow, RU).
